Hypnotherapy And
Visualisation Helps With Stroke And Brain Injury Cases.
Relatively recent
research by some very eminent scientists such as Candace Pert Phd., Professor Helen Neville of the University
of Oregon and Dr Norman Doidge have now proven that the brain has the ability to re-create and develop new
pathways in the brain that over time, can enable functions that have been damaged through brain injury or
strokes to be regained. Much as a child learns the very complex ability to walk and talk through creating new
neural pathways, a person who has suffered a brain injury or stroke can (dependant on the severity of the
injuries), over a period of time, develop new pathways within the brain to improve lost
skills.
The Body Mind Connection.
In order for any of us to perform a task, we first must
visualise (sometimes sub consciously), actually doing the task and then the brain sends out the required
signals to the nerves, muscles and parts of the body in order to accomplish the task. Over a period of time,
with physical practice, the brain establishes new neural pathways and the action becomes 'automatic',
requiring little conscious thought.
The important thing to remember here is that without the
original thought and intention, nothing would happen. It is the original thought 'I intend to do this' that
starts off the whole process.
